A complete set of six original Cesca chairs, designed by Marcel Breuer in 1928 and produced in Italy by Gavina during the 1960s. Each chair carries its original label and features the classic combination of tubular steel, wooden frame, and handwoven cane.
This model (B32) is among the earliest cantilevered chair designs and remains one of the most celebrated icons of modernist furniture. These examples are in very good condition. Chrome is in mint condition, as well as the wooden frame and backrests. Two seats with some surface wear to the cane (no holes, one with a small, almost invisible reparation), the others with minor wear to the caned seating here and there. Seating wear consistent with age and authenticity. Frames are in perfect condition, not bent. The chairs are fully original.
An exceptional opportunity to acquire a matched set with provenance, blending Bauhaus purity with Italian postwar craftsmanship. These Cesca chairs are not recent reproductions (like the later Knoll-reproductions) but original 1960s production by Gavina, the Italian manufacturer who first brought Marcel Breuer’s Bauhaus design into postwar homes. Each chair carries the original label and retains its handwoven cane, which has acquired a beautiful patina over time.
